

The perspective shadow was replaced by a shadow underneath it. The O was made thicker and 3D, this also happened to the shadow. The O is now bigger and its texture is now flat. In 2001, Opera launched a remade version of the former logo. Back then, the O was smaller than its own shadow. In short, create a new profile so that Opera creates a fresh taskbar button. This is the logo of Opera from 1999 until 2001. Then, in your main Opera GX profile, delete the old profile and keep the new. If icon still gets messed up, create a new profile the way you want, close down the Opera using that profile, delete everything in the new profile's side profile folder, and then copy over everything from the old profile (except the ico file). Then, your icon change should be reflected in the taskbar.

When you change the icon for the shortcut, you'll have to open up the Windows task manager, select "Windows Explorer" on the Processes tab and click the "restart" button for it. You can also get to the shortcut's properties by right-clicking the taskbar icon and right-clicking on the "Opera GX." link. You can then right-click it and goto properties to change the icon. The shortcut for the taskbar button should be at "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar".
